PRODUCT REVIEW: Little Red Rash Ointment

"Little Red Rash" by Zi Zai Dermatology is an ointment I'd had my eye on for a little while. I actually got this from the Eczema Company - LOVE THEM! They've got all sorts of stuff for eczema from sleepwear and gloves to ointments and creams. A couple years ago, The Eczema Company also sent me Zi Zai's Eczeherbal Ointment, which you can read about here.

Let's open 'er up!

It has a waxy texture and smells kinda like a light mixture of olive oil and beeswax. Since the first two ingredients are organic extra virgin olive oil and candelilla wax, that makes sense ;-)

Here's the full list of ingredients:

Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Candililla wax, Bai Xian Pi (Cortex Dictamni), Pu Gong Ying (Herba Taraxaci), Huang Qin (Radix Scutellariae), Ku Shen (Radix Sophorae Flavescentis), Huang Bai (Cortex Phellodendri), Di Fu Zi (Fructus Kochiae), Huang Lian (Rhizoma Coptidis)

I had the perfect little patch of eczema near my ring finger to test this product on:

It was actually also on the inside of my index finger. This photo was from a little over a week into the eczema flare (on one of the better days when it wasn't inflamed). It was incredibly itchy and the inflammation would go up and down throughout the day.

This particular case is due to my nickel allergy and the zipper and hooks on a pair on pants I recently got... I'm all out of clear nail polish which is what I use to paint over zipper pulls containing nickel. Since these pants are new to me, I kept accidentally touching the metal, grrr. I need a never ending supply of clear nail polish. It does wonders!

I've been using Little Red Rash for the last two weeks. It came to work with me and everything. In fact, I just paused before typing this sentence so I could put some on my elbow.

This stuff stops the itch within a couple minutes. I LOVE IT!

Little Red Rash couldn't do much on the days when I had heavy inflammation. My skin was EXTREMELY irritated and red hot because my allergen was still in the picture. To this day, I haven't been able to find anything other than steroids to get that sort of reaction to go down.

This ointment is GREAT for when my allergen is gone, though. The healing process usually brings more itchiness as well as dry skin. When untreated, that can lead to scratching, more inflammation and infection. This will definitely be one of my go-to's!

A big thanks to The Eczema Company for sending this my way!
