Foods that Contain Lactose

lactose Since I was diagnosed with Lactose Intolerance, my digestion system has felt SO much better. No more feeling puffy or nauseous! (The nausea only happened once in a while)

Being Lactose Intolerant means your body can't process Lactose which is a sugar found in milk and dairy products. Lactose can also be hidden in weird places that you wouldn't expect! When you see lactoserum, whey, milk solids, or modified milk ingredients on the label, that's lactose as well. It's used in things like processed meats for its texture, flavor and stickiness.

Check out the list of items to avoid / read the labels on:

  • milk (fun fact: human milk has more lactose than cow)
  • butter
  • margarine
  • yogurt & frozen yogurt
  • ice cream
  • sherbet
  • kefir
  • cheese (hard cheese has less than soft)
  • sour cream
  • processed meats
  • sliced bread / rolls
  • breakfast cereals
  • potato chips
  • meal replacement bars and powders
  • beers that are made in the milk stout style
  • non-dairy creamers
  • baked goods
  • salad dressing
  • low grade ground beef can have the udder meat in it which has lactose
  • hot chocolate mixes
  • breaded meats
  • omelets or souffles
  • soup mixes
  • cookies
  • fudge
  • pudding
  • custard
  • toffee
  • butterscotch
  • caramels
  • instant potatoes
  • pancake / biscuit mix
  • granola bars

And I'm sure there's more stuff which I've left off the list. Feel free to add more in the comments!
